Terminator is not fiction, its here, its happening, now.

Have you seen the movie Terminator? Ever thought it could be real? Well, it is real, the day has come. Its not in the future, its happening, right now.

Robot war has already begun. There are UAVs flying over our head daily. UAVs are planes without human pilot. They can create mission on their own and destroy target. Right now, this second, there are at least 35 Predator drones in the skies over Iraq and Afghanistan. Around the world, robot prototypes exist that are mobile, armed and operate without human control. Living insects are being combined with machines for military use which can carry biological weapons. Watch this interesting small documentary with P. W. Singer (former coordinator of the Defense Policy Task Force for Barack Obama)

This is not a movie, this is happening, now.

    Hell yes, First comment

    Very interesting, i read that by 2011, we will have a computer as smart or smarter then the human brain.

    @Stephen,

    Not as early as 2011, I think it will take atleast till 2030 to make it as smart as human brain

    Could be 2011, @Stephen never qualified his statement with who’s brain.

    Ug, there is a significantly large difference between the workings of the human brain and a computer. Did you know that there are things that are simply beyond computation?

    In terms of raw power, computers are already vastly superior. In terms of versatility and drawing meaningful conclusions, humans are far ahead, and it may even be impossible for computers to match them.

    Also, we are no where near the level where a computer could function as a hacker, and thus all rogue AIs would end up isolated, not spreading over all machines worldwide. Just because you are connected, does not mean you can easily take control.

    Programmers in general are aware of the risks that sophisticated AI pose. We could still cause some significant disasters, but we are not going to code any AI specifically to take over the world, and we do take precautions to hamstring such abilities in AI’s. For instance, those predators are monitored a good deal of the time. Rogue behavior would be quickly shut down.

    tl;dr so long as we have root access and we don’t give that to the AI, they can’t cause a disaster anywhere near the level of the hypothetical skynet.

      @FreeFall,

      I agree with you that bots are not going to take control over this planet, by themselves. But I am truly amazed to see the technology and un-manned air vehicles killing people (even if its controlled by human). For me, killing people is always insanely stupid, be it my humans or be it by robots controlled by humans.

    This is so off. Drones are conrtolled by people first of all. Second, it’s 2011 and no computer smarter than humans, dumbasses. Way to think in small terms. Maybe they’ll have one next week I heard,lol, morons.

    The drones can fly pre-programmed flights. That’s about it. Actual movement to a target and the deployment of weapons is always controlled by the RC pilot.

    Terminator as in a robot kills someone? Yes.

    Terminator as in a robot autonomously tracks down and kills someone with just their name as information? No.

    The Terminator is still fiction.

      @Dan,

      I agree with “Terminator as in a robot autonomously tracks down and kills someone with just their name as information? No”

      But what about drones flying over Afghanistan, capturing images of fields over sky, processing the images with pre-defined targets and dropping bombs upon match. Isn’t this something similar?

        The drone cannot deploy weapons autonomously. It must always be controlled by its pilot.

        It is less a robot than it is a fancy RC plane with bombs.

    O.K. So the robots take over the earth. Do you think they could possibly f*** it up more than humans already have?

      @James,
      You have a strong point here. We probably are better off with robots than humans.
